- The "energy bank account" mindset
- Simple ways to replenish your energy every day
- Why you don't have to earn rest or self-care
If you're navigating burnout, emotional exhaustion, or midlife overwhelm, this conversation will leave you feeling seen and remind you that healing happens one small step at a time.

Hey friend, welcome back to her next chapter, the podcast for high-achieving women in Midlife who are ready to stop just getting through life and start truly living it. I'm Diana Ginto, licensed therapist, turn coach, speaker, and your biggest cheerleader. Every week we're having honest conversations about burnout, emotional resilience, confidence, healing, and what it really looks like to reinvent yourself in this season of life. So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let's step into your next chapter together. Friend, can we talk about something that I think so many women experience, but don't always say it out loud. Have you ever gone on vacation and come home needing a vacation from your vacation? Because same. You spend months looking forward to this, right? You plan everything, you save the money, you count down the days on that calendar, and you get on that plane or get inside the car for that road trip, whatever it is, and you think, finally, I can breathe. I can rest. Finally, I can feel like myself again. And then you come home and you're exhausted. And maybe even more exhausted than when you left. And you're sitting here thinking, well, what is this about? What happened? Why am I still tired? Wasn't this supposed to fix it? I mean, I've waited all year for this. I've saved all my money. I've put all this energy into this solution. Friend, if you've ever felt this way, first of all, I see you. I've been there. And second, I want you to know something. There's nothing wrong with you. Because I think so many of us, especially women who are used to being the ones who hold everything together, carry this belief. If I can just get away, I'll finally feel better. If I can just get a break, I'll finally catch my breath. If I can just get through this one thing, then everything will be okay. And listen, I wish that were always true. I wish we could just pack a suitcase and get on the plane, drink something with a little umbrella in it, and come home completely restored. Wouldn't that be amazing? But a friend, the reality is burnout doesn't usually happen because of one stressful week. Burnout happens because of the accumulation, the compound effect of months and yes, maybe even years of saying yes, the years of putting yourself last, the constant responsibility, the emotional load, the pressure to keep achieving, the expectation that you can handle everything. Okay, let me take a let me take a breath here. And friend, one vacation cannot undo years of abandoning yourself, of running on empty. So I want to share an analogy with you because I think it explains this so well. I want you to think about energy like a bank account. Okay. Now, most of us are pretty good at understanding money, right? We know when money comes in and we know when money goes out. We know when we need to make changes. But when it comes to our energy, a lot of us don't look at that account until we're completely overdrawn. And friend, some of us have been overdrafting our energy account for years. We've been making withdrawals every single day. We're withdrawing when we take care of everyone else before ourselves. We're withdrawing when we say yes because we don't want to disappoint anyone, or we don't want people to be mad at us, or we don't want to look bad. We're withdrawing when we're carrying emotional weight that was never ours to carry. And we're withdrawing when we keep pushing through, even though our body is asking us to slow down. I often talk to my clients and they often complain about body aches, headaches, tight shoulders, pain in their hips, gastrointestinal issues, um, migraines, just a lot of stuff that they can't explain where it's coming from. There hasn't been any medical thing that has been determined. And sometimes those symptoms are triggered when they are going through a lot. Maybe they have like a stressful week or a project that's coming, or they haven't gotten sleep. And all that to say is that sometimes we are just overdrawn and our body is keeping the score. We are withdrawing when we tell ourselves, I'll take care of myself when things calm down. But friend, can we just take a moment here? You and me, and let's be real, let's just be really honest. When do things ever really calm down? Because there's always another project, there's always another responsibility, another person who needs something. So then we finally take that vacation, right? We take that time off and we think, ooh, okay, this is it. This is the big deposit. And friend, vacation is a deposit, a beautiful one. Keep doing it. But we can't make withdrawals from our energy account all year long and expect one or maybe two big deposits to completely restore our balance. It just doesn't work that way. You can't solve a 365-day problem in a five to 10 days vacation. And this was such a big realization for me personally because I remember feeling frustrated. I remember thinking, why am I like this? Why can't I just enjoy my time off? Why do I have to come back feeling worse? And maybe you've been there too, but what I realized was that I wasn't just tired. I was emotionally exhausted. And friend, let me tell you, there is a big difference. Physical tired says I need sleep. Emotional exhaustion says I don't even know how to turn my brain off. Physical tired says I need a nap. Emotional exhaustion says, I've been caring so much for so long, I don't even know what I need anymore. And friend, this is what so many high-achieving women experience in midlife. You're successful, you're capable, you're dependable, but inside you are tired. So here's the question: What do you do? Because you can't just wait for the next vacation. You can't wait until the kids need less. You can't wait until work slows down. You can't wait until everything is perfect. And this is where I really want to introduce you to something that I want you to think about. What if recovery wasn't something you did only once a year? What if recovery became something you practice every day? Because, friend, your energy deserves the same attention you give everything else in your life. An energy deposit might look like taking five minutes in the morning before everyone needs something from you. Going outside for a walk. I know for me, that's been life-changing. I take a 20-minute walk every morning, and it's not to burn calories, it's not to lose weight. It literally is a mental check-in for myself. Yes, I'm moving my body, it feels really good, it helps me wake up, but it really is more of a deposit for myself. It helps me slowly get into my day. It also can look like maybe saying no without explaining yourself. How many times do you say yes because you want to please someone? Or maybe it looks like asking for help instead of trying to figure it all by yourself. And it also can look as simple as doing something that brings you joy solely because it brings you joy. One of the things that I do for myself that brings me joy is baking sourdough bread. It brings me so much joy. And I'll tell you, most of the time I end up giving it away because my family doesn't actually eat a lot of bread. And so I end up making it to give it away, but I still bake it because it brings me so much joy. So take a moment to ask yourself, what do I need today? Not what does everyone else need from me? And this is really what I mean when I say choosing yourself regularly. Not choosing yourself only when you're burnt out or when you have nothing left, but really creating a relationship with yourself where you actually listen, where you learn to check in, to connect with yourself, where you notice when your account is getting low. It's almost like going into your bank account app and taking a look. What's my balance for today? Because, friend, you deserve more than surviving until the next vacation. You deserve a life where you have the energy to actually enjoy the moments that you're working so hard for. So before you go today, I want to leave you with this. What is one energy deposit I can make into myself this week? Not because I've earned it, but because I matter. Sit with it. Because I think so many of you have been taught that you have to earn rest, that you have to earn support, you have to earn care. But friend, you don't have to earn anything, especially your own love. I hope that this episode resonated with you. And if this episode felt like I was sitting across from you having coffee today, that's exactly what I hope it felt like. Because this season of life can feel complicated. And midlife brings so many changes, so many questions. And sometimes we just need someone to remind us you are not failing, you are not broken, you are just human. And if you're listening today thinking, Diana, I know I need to make changes, but I keep getting stuck, I keep falling back into the same patterns, I keep putting myself last. I want you to know you don't have to figure this out alone. Head over to my show notes and book a consultation call with me. We can talk about what you're experiencing, what support could look like in the season, and how you can begin creating your next chapter with more confidence, more clarity, and more peace. Thank you for spending this time with me today. And remember, your story isn't over. Your next chapter might just be your best moment. Till next time, friends.
